Internships and Positions

Business Development Manager

ART India is looking for a Business Development Manager. Interested candidates would need to have a Masters degree in Business Administration. Prior work experience at a publishing firm would be an asset though not necessary. This is a full-time position.

The position of the Business Development Manager would essentially entail all of the following:

  • The candidate will be expected to source advertisements (from clients like art galleries, artists, corporates, advertising agencies, etc.) on a regular basis. S/he will have to be on the look-out to cultivate new avenues to develop the business.
  • S/he will be required to co-ordinate with the Editorial, Accounts, Marketing, and Production (Printing, Processing, and Designing) Departments.
  • It will be his/her responsibility to co-ordinate with the National Distributor so as to increase the circulation of the magazine.
  • S/he will be expected to manage the Direct Retail Outlets located across the country and abroad.
  • The candidate will also be responsible for co-ordinating with the Logistics Agents (for the prompt delivery of the magazine), managing the subscriptions database, and client servicing.
  • It will be his/her responsibility to conduct banking transactions and miscellaneous accounting activities (such as maintaining a balance between expenditure and income, generating quarterly M.I.S. Reports, monthly cash-flow statements, etc.).
  • The candidate will also be expected to design and implement promotional strategies to increase the readership of the magazine.
  • S/he is expected to make occasional promotional business trips within the country.

Assistant Editors

The Assistant Editor would not only be expected to assist the Editor in the ideation process involved in planning an issue, s/he would be expected to write for the magazine on a regular basis besides being involved with other areas of the publication process that would involve: researching images and facts in articles, sourcing and/or commissioning new writers; editorial work like proofreading, fact-checking, co-ordinating with gallerists and artists and sourcing appropriate images for articles; overseeing, guiding, and delegating duties to the Text Editors and Interns; occasional marketing work like assisting the Business Development Manager with press releases, extra events, etc. A familiarity with design software like Photoshop and Quark would be welcome, besides having a strong sense of print design.

This will be a full-time position, the candidates will have to put in a five-day week with a minimum of 7 hours a day.

Text Editors

Besides basic proof-reading, the Text Editor would also be required to manage editorial functions like fact-checking, constructing the pagination, keying in captions, co-ordinating with writers, gallerists, and artists and sourcing appropriate images for articles. The candidate must be bright, hard-working, meticulous, and interested in art and culture. This will be a full-time position, the candidates will have to put in a five-day week with a minimum of 7 hours a day.

Interns

Candidates applying for an Internship at the magazine will be required to make a three- to four-month commitment at the start of each quarter (work on each quarter/issue begins in the months of February, May, August, and November respectively). A three-four month internship term would allow the intern to see the process involved in publishing a magazine from start to finish. Interns would be expected to assist in everyday administrative tasks such as managing mail, answering telephonic inquiries, managing packages for the production of the issue when the contents of the issue are ready for designing and processing, filing and organising out material (like catalogues, photographs, etc.) related to the previous issue and organising the inflow of material for the upcoming issue.

The candidate must be bright, hard-working, meticulous, and interested in art and culture. We particularly encourage applicants curious about all aspects of magazine publication.

All internship positions are unpaid. Time schedules for interns are flexible and could be worked out at the onset with the editorial board.
