Dear Friends,

Here’s wishing you a peaceful 2012!

The world is forever evolving. Change is in the air and there is a need for collaboration and synergy. Change when monitored and sustained carefully becomes Culture. Collaboration is an act of faith!

In this issue, the theme is Art Collectives. The human body itself is a collective – the whole is always larger than the parts. The body shows us how different parts are complementary to one another. Each organ plays an important role in nature’s unique design.

The history of art is replete with examples of collective effort. The major European art movements of the 20th century – Impressionism, Cubism and Surrealism succeeded because the participating artists and thinkers came together as individuals and also as members of groups. In India too, important art collectives from the Bombay Progressives to the Raqs Media Collective have exemplified the value of solidarity.

At the JSW Foundation we believe in team work and collaborating with different creative and enthusiastic minds. Knowledge should be used not to foolishly dissect the past but to energetically construct the future!

The next issue of ART India will herald a new change! We look forward to the fresh cutting-edge design!! We look forward to this moment of growth!!!
