For me, art evokes a definite emotional response – it’s love at first
sight!
I communicate with my paintings and sculptures – they become a
part of my being! Canvases hold nostalgic moments. They remind me
of the time I acquired them. I have grown with the art that I have
around me. Artworks are records of the moments that have passed.
They are also carriers of hope!
For me, buying art is a major high. Is it a selfish and self-indulgent act,
I wonder sometimes. Should I feel guilty when I acquire a work? I feel
that it is my way of making a difference to the world – by promoting
young artists and by providing them with the opportunity to hone
their talents. To complement my collection, I try to contribute to the
improvement of art institutions by offering scholarships and
undertaking projects that will create a positive environment. The
JSW Foundation in collaboration with the Prince Drawing School,
London, has recently chosen Vaishali Dalvi from Mumbai for a postgraduate
course in drawing and painting. She will get a well-deserved
opportunity to explore her potential.
Collectors should use their capabilities to help and be part of the art
fraternity. It would be wonderful to have art libraries in our cities,
don’t you think?
People who are committed to their passion, must make a difference.
We must nurture and treasure the common heritage of mankind,
which comprises great images and ideas!
We must make a difference and climb up the next big step!!
