PRELUDE

INDIA IS GOING PLACES - WE ARE AMONGST THE FASTEST growing economies in the world. Our country and its citizens are being looked at internationally with great respect. Indian novelists are capturing shelf-space in every bookstore; Bhangra and Indian pop music are being played in all swanky nightclubs and stores; and Bollywood is no longer being frowned at.

The price curve of Indian art is shooting up in the global market. Indian art is being talked about with interest in important international circuits. Boundaries are becoming more fluid - Indian Contemporary artists are exhibiting their works in international museums and art fairs. Indian art, in general, has had a high price-profile in almost every international art event this year. Collectors have also become better informed about the quality of art.

As a collector, I look for a combination of three factors in an artwork - the growth of the artist, the unique trajectory of ideas and the freshness of the work's appeal. Art has to dare to be different and unique!
